New Perspectives on the Development of Law in China

The 10th Annual Conference of the European China Law Studies Association (欧洲中国法研究协会 www.ecls.eu) will be held at the Institute of East Asian Studies, University of Cologne. The conference invites scholars, professionals and policy makers to discuss new perspectives on the development of law in China.

Since its founding in 2006, the European China Law Studies Association has become a major international venue for scholars and practitioners who are engaged in the study of Chinese law, from both comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. The annual conference is a leading international academic forum for the exchange of information and ideas on Chinese law, as well as a platform for the initiation of research collaboration. We invite papers and full panel proposals in any of the areas below that add new approaches or challenge accepted assumptions about the development of Chinese law. Studies from other disciplines than law or interdisciplinary papers as well as submissions from young academics are expressly encouraged.
--Evolution of legal reform
--Legal consciousness and activism
--International law and national law-making
--Legal transfer and international development co-operation
--Central and local law-making
--Law-making in special economic zones and special administrative regions
--Policy and law-making campaigns
--Participation in legislative processes
--Judicial law-making
--Fragmentation of law and legal pluralism
--Communist Party and the law
--Socio-economic transformation and the law
